This year marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe) and VJ Day (Victory over Japan) and I would like to encourage all those who contributed to the Second World War to register to take part in the national commemorations.
To mark VE 75 The Royal British Legion will host 750 veterans from across the UK, each accompanied by a nominated companion, to attend the VE 75 events programme in Central London over the Early May Bank Holiday 2020. The invitation includes a fully funded plan for transport, meals and accommodation.
The UK’s VJ Day national event will take place at the National Memorial Arboretum on Saturday 15 August. The event will form part of a three-day public programme of events from 14 - 16 August, which will include a national service of Remembrance. Travel and accommodation will again be provided by the Legion for all veterans who wish to attend.
I very much hope Second World Veterans, however they contributed, will apply to take part in these special events. To find out more (incl. eligibility and further details) and to register please use the following link: https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/…/remem…/remembrance-events. Please note that the deadline for entries is 2nd March 2020.
