The Coalition Government is now mid-way through its term and whilst there is still plenty more to do, the past 2 and a half years have set Britain on the right track. A quarter of the deficit has been cleared and some difficult choices have led to bold reforms in welfare, the NHS, education and our immigration policy.
Important decisions have been made affecting Britain’s role in the European Union. We had lost too many powers under Labour therefore we have ended the UK’s participation in EU bailouts, vetoed the proposed EU treaty and adopted a tough stance on increases to the EU budget. On a personal note, I think it is imperative that we engage more with the organisation, influence future policy in our favour and assert the UK’s power to ensure the most favourable outcomes.
Looking forward the Government has recently announced new measures to continue to support hard working people. Help for families with their childcare costs, more affordable homes for young people, investment in Britain’s transport infrastructure and an improved state pension will ensure Britain thrives in the global race.
