Tobias Ellwood, MP for Bournemouth East, has welcomed news that the Government has invested a further £80 million, of which £617,511 has been awarded to BCP Council, to protect essential bus services and allow local authorities to make travel improvements within their constituencies.
Commenting, Mr Ellwood said: "Many people rely on bus services across Bournemouth, to get to work or to see family and friends. As a popular tourism destination it is important that our transport links are regular and reliable, allowing visitors to travel with ease. It is great to hear that BCP Council will benefit from an extra £617,511 to fund these services. This will protect existing services and enhance transport connections, supporting people to get where they need to go with public transport they can rely on.”
He added: “We have already seen the benefit the £2 bus fare cap has had: the average fare has dropped by 10.8% in rural and non-metropolitan parts of England. Now the focus is on improving and sustaining services, I will be urging BCP Council to maximise the benefit of our share of this investment in Bournemouth East.”
