China - Forced Organ Harvesting (EDM 2138)

Members of the Government do not, by convention, sign any Early Day Motions, as doing so is likely to breach the Ministerial Code’s rules on collective responsibility.  However, I understand from the UK Government that its analysis on this remains that the evidence available is not sufficiently strong to substantiate claims that state-sanctioned, systematic organ harvesting is happening in China.

The WHO view is that China is implementing an ethical voluntary organ transplant system, in accordance with international standards, though I understand that it does have concerns about overall transparency.

Last year, the UK raised human rights bilaterally with China on a number of occasions.
