The World Intellectual Property Organisation’s (WIPO) Beijing Treaty on Audio-Visual Performances came into force on 28 April 2020. As a result, the UK has agreed to adopt, in accordance with our legal system, the measures necessary to ensure the application of the Treaty. In particular, the UK must ensure that enforcement procedures are available under our laws, permitting effective action against any act of infringement of rights covered by the Treaty. The action must include expeditious remedies to prevent and defer infringement.
I do not believe that the UK has failed to act in accordance with the aims of the Treaty. On the contrary, the UK Government welcomed the important work that has been undertaken by the WIPO that led to the Treaty.
