Britain
has become a soft touch on asylum and immigration. Immigration has
more than doubled. We have lost control of the system.
Conservatives
believe we need a fair immigration system that helps genuine refugees
and gives priority to those who want to come to Britain to work
hard and make a positive contribution, like they do in Australia
We
will reduce the number of people coming to Britain significantly
by getting a grip on work permits and taking firm action to stop
people who are not genuine refugees applying for asylum.
We
will introduce a new police force specially designated to control
and secure Britain's borders, and help fight illegal immigration,
international crime and the threat of terrorism, will be established
by an incoming Conservative government.
We will pull out of the 1951 Refugee Convention (designed to deal
with the movement of refugees after W.W.II and no longer relevant
today) and enter reservations against the relevant parts of the
European Convention on Human Rights.
