Lib Dem defects

Long standing Lib Dem Cllr Philip Stanley-Watts has, for some time, been at odds with decision making in the Town Hall.

He has been so appalled with the Lib Dems negative campaigning during this general election that he has now crossed the floor to the Conservative Party.

Here is his letter to residents explaining his actions:

Dear Resident,
As a Boscombe Councillor I write to explain why, after much thought, I have left the Lib Dems this week and joined the Conservative Party.

Firstly, decisions including:
.
• Sale of the Yellow Buses
• Closure of the BIC pool
• Sale of our sea front car parks
• Inadequate regeneration plans for Boscombe which include the loss of the end of the pier removing any chance of bringing back pleasure trips

These decisions were not mentioned in the Lib Dem local election manifesto of 2003 and in my view are not in Bournemouth's interest.

Secondly, I object to the Lib Dems negative style of campaigning.

The Lib Dems have been running a misleading and negative general election campaign which I do not want to be associated with.

In contrast, I have been very impressed with Tobias Ellwood the Conservative Candidate, whose positive campaign is focusing on the issues that really matter and in my view will be a huge asset to Bournemouth, if elected as our local MP.

Yours faithfully

Philip Stanley-Watts
